AUTISM ASPECT Positive PartnershipsWorkstar eLearning solution delivers online training to teachers, schools, parents and carers in collaboration with AAETC (Australian Autism Education and Training Consortium) through the Positive Partnerships program. BackgroundThe ‘Helping Children with Autism’ project, funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), has been developed out of the need to improve the educational outcomes for school aged children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). ChallengeWorking with AAETC, Workstar was required to collaborate with a variety of academic experts to develop accurate and effective training materials for key groups. SolutionWorkstar created easy-to-use online training modules for teacher professional development to build knowledge, skills and expertise in working with these students. Workstar developed innovative discussion boards for teachers to assist in collaboration in working with students with an ASD. Workstar also developed interactive self paced learning modules for parents and carers to help them work in partnership with their child's school to improve their learning outcomes. ResultIn the first 7 months of launching the learning solution there are 5200 users registered with 3400 engaged in the online learning courses. The latest learning module rollout, ‘Parent Information Topics’ is attracting even more users and very positive feedback.
